Envy

I'm working with some guys putting in a hardwood floor at my friend's house. Not easy work to be sure. We were listening to a radio commercial about flights to Austraila for $598 round trip. I said I wanted to go. Just walk out and disappear for a couple weeks. They commented that I had no ties. No wife, kids, pets, and they envied that I could go with a moments notice.

I kind of envy them. They have wives, kids, and pets. A real life. Funny that they want what I have, and I would like what they have.

Sometime I will figure this whole thing out.

Small Observations

Why does everyone in the movies or tv sleep with the windows uncovered so the sun is streaming in when they wake? I sleep in a dark room. Really dark. I don't want to wake at 6 am when the freaking sun rises. Also my neighbors would be able to look in my window as I slept. That would be creepy.

The hands free law went into effect last summer. So instead of having the phone to their ears as they drive, they hold the phone away from their mouths and have it on speaker phone. Not really that hands free.

People in LA are freaked out by guns. Usually democrats, of which I am one. I kind of understand it, but not completely. I'm more afraid of the wrong people possessing a gun than the gun itself. Without a hand and mind, a gun is an inert lump of metal and plastic. Idiots and unbalanced people with no idea are far more scary than a gun.

People that are really stupid and bigoted think they are not either of those things. Rednecks think they are rocket scientists. I know a rocket scientist. He is nothing like my upstairs neighbor...

Some backstabbing assholes can look you in the eye and say hello even though they have spent 9 months disparaging you to anyone who might listen. Turning someone who trusted you for over a decade against you. I am amazed and know not what to say...

More later. After I learn to write these down as I think of them...

Longshot part 2

Well, the longshot of going to the Great Barrier Reef for six months didn't pan out. I'm okay with that. I threw together the tape in one day and sent it off. No editing, just one take and done. Okay, 4 takes, but you get the idea. It would have been really cool to go and do that job, but I might never have come back.

I thought of looking at some of the 50 semi finalists, but I was kinda bummed out so I just clicked away from the site. I didn't want to know anything about the people who did get selected as one of the 50. Who were they? What did they do to get selected out of probably 20,000 or more videos? I could learn and then maybe do something like they did with the 60 second video. Would that get me selected next time? Are they going to do a similar contest next time? The contest garnered a huge response. It was great publicity.

Sometimes I just want to get away. Is that so bad? Get away from the hassle of living in LA, the traffic on the 405, the sagging work environment in all the areas that I work. And with the last play I did, get away from the rehearsal and the hassles of the set we had to deal with. Oy!

A 6 month dream job on a beach would have been Bliss... And that's what we are all told to look for. Our Bliss.
